Short Description:  Install Instrument Panel

1400 - 1718

Today, the G5 and EFII controller were installed. Wiring, tubing, and antennas were routed and connected. Bundles were tie wrapped.

I then worked on connecting the essential bus circuit breaker panel. Wiring was terminated with appropriate ring terminals and connected to respective circuit breakers. The four wires for the injector power and 3 coil packs were twisted and installed in a 12 awg ring terminal. Before this was accomplished, I contacted Robert at EFII to verify that this was standard practice. He replied to make certain of a good connection. Given this advice, Icrimped an identical connector on four identical wires for a test. I then clamped the ring terminal in a vise and performed a pull test. I attempted to pull the wires from the crimp but was unsuccessful using body weight. Given this result, I feel confident that the crimp connector installed on these four wires is satisfactory.

Once the wiring was complete, the circuit breaker panel was installed using 6-32 torx screws and nylon washers.

I then inspected the wiring behind the breakers for interference. I found that the circuit breaker bus feed was interfering with other wiring. I removed this wire and rerouted it on the right side of the panel, outside of the ciruit breaker stack. This route was much more optimal, with zero interference issues. The feed wire was connected and silicone boots installed over terminals.

next, I removed the screws securing the USB power port panel. I replaced the faston connectors with .25" flag faston connector. This was done to provide more clearance on the ECUs, which are mounted behind the power port. The wiring was then connected and the panel installed using 6-32 torx screws.

I then removed the stock knobs on the panel and flood light controllers. These knobs were replaced with knobs that match the rest of the panels.
