Well this pretty much brings me to the end of this project, at least until I paint. Over the last couple weeks I went through my punch list knocking off a bunch of little things like interior, some final mechanical items, hanging the prop, etc. Over this last weekend I started the engine and verified it's function. As it's been many, many years since I took delivery I was a little worried about how it would start. I kept a very close eye on it over the years, regularly fogging it, turning it over, and keeping fresh dessicant plugs in it at all times. In a show of the quality of Barrett engines and the P-Mags, it fired right off! When I checked with Allen Barrett a couple years ago, he said don't even worry about it as long as I kept doing what I was doing. Looks like he was correct. So now it's time to request inspection by the FAA MIDO. I have all the paperwork assembled and will be sending it off in the next couple days. So from here I expect one of two things to happen. The FAA may come back and say they can inspect it soon, or they may say it will be a couple months. If it's the latter, I will spend the time painting it. Hopefully I will be able to get it out of my workshop before snow sets in and I'm unable to fly it out until spring.
