Brief Description:  troubleshoot and resolve alternator issues

Studied B&C wiring diagrams and troubleshooting guidelines. Verified correct posts to connect to and good connections.

Started with VOM on VR#1 and following B&C checklist. Didn't take long to figure out the field was not being energized even though switch was on. Needed to jumper power wire from terminal #6 to #3 for voltage sense. Clearly shown on diagram, but shown parallel with low voltage light circuit. I was not using a light so I incorrectly assumed that leg wasn't needed. Now have voltage out to F1 at alternator. Raining like crazy today so did not start up to check that the alt. is now in fact charging. I think it will.

Ran through similar process on VR#2 to back-up 20A alternator. This is a LS1 VR and they say specifcally not to jumper power terminal to voltage sense terminal. Instead ran fused lead from essential bus battery side to pin 1 with a 2A auto style fuse in line. 10A in now as it was all I had on hand...will replace with 2A next session. Will try to remember to get some pics of this next time

Removed HID light from cowl inlet....metered out open. I think the vibration on the alternator killed the filament. I think I will replace it with Sunray or Microsun LED light and mount to baffle floor.
