Brief Description: drill out excess elevator weight
Elevator horn way too heavy. Consensus was to drill out excess weight to achieve slight (3/4") overbalance condition. Mike Easley gave great advice...slow patience!! The lead wants to melt and bind the bit inside. Got a little stuck several times.....glad I was using my Dewalt hammer drill....on drill setting, #2 torque position. This gave me reverse and torque #1 to get out if stuck. Got touchier as I went... I think the bit was too dull by then and was creating a lot more heat and hence the binding.
Gonna buy 2 more good 1/2" bits today to finish up the job. Might pick up a 5/8" as well in case I need to enlarge existing holes to get more weight out. Referred to pic #761 on 12/12/07 of builders assist for size and placement of weigth.
Close, much lighter, but not there yet. Will take elevators off and final balance each side independently next session.
Loosely placed elevator trim servo in place to get weight distribution close.
Getting closer to the right balance, but still overweighed a lot.
