Removing and installing the lower cowl of the ES is cumbersome. Not bad with 2 people, but really difficult alone. Have done it many times. Last year I dropped the cowl trying to reinstall it. Made boo-boo on nose that will need to be repaired. Just damaged the micro I think. At LOBO fly-in back in October I saw Dave McKnight's award winning ES... he did the split cowl while he had it at Brad's for paint. Decided to do it also since the lower cowl will need body work and paint for the boo-boo anyway.
This mod really should be standard to an ES. Not hard to do (so far) and makes things so much easier.
Made the cut and left 3 "tabs" uncut to hold the thing together until skybolt holes can be drilled in good alignment. Will remove these tabs after skybolts are installed.
I'm thinking 4-5 skybolts. Making the right side removeable as the first side; oil drain and gascolator are on the R side.
