Brief Description: attempt to repair spindle in door handle
Well, this problem has been talking to me for a while. Door was hard to latch, particulary from the outside. Just an adjustment I told myself... I'll work on that someday. Well, it broke. Sheared the screw that holds the inside handle to the outside spindle.
So, took it all apart. Attempted to extract the broken machine screw in the CD316-02 spindle. Broke 2 drill bits and an extractor. Got the remnants of the screw out, but buggered up the threads on the bottom part.
Ordered a new spindle and 2 screws from Lancair. About $95 plus shipping. Reasonable I think. Will have a machinist friend of mine work on the old one to have as a spare. Probably have to go up one size in diameter and re-tap the threads.
Will also adjust the latches for proper operation.
CD316-02 spindle 91251A155 screw (this is also available from McMaster Carr 92383A261 roll pin.... out of stock at Lancair... I think I can re-use the original pin (holds the exterior handle on)
There is supposed to be a head on that screw
inside portion pulled back
how it should go back together; interior handle off here
