Brief Description:  Begin removal of original panel for Upgrade

Well... short version. I have two big issues that have been dogging me to the point that I have decided to do a panel upgrade. First issue from day 1 is best described as open squelch on the low VHF frequencies, most of the time. Many fixes attempted, some helped things along, but in the end I have poor COM performance. The RF issue is directly attributed to one fo the two AFS EFIS's. Can't tell which one for sure as Aerotronics wired them to the same VP power pin. After years of chasing this, it turns out this is a known issue with the dimmer circuit in the EFIS. Not fleet wide, but happens occasionally. Raising the squelch settings fixes the symptom but at reduced radio range.
2nd issue started after about 185 hours, and after aircraft was painted. Three complete electrical failures (all in IMC) caused by the VP control unit failing. Not sure of reason, but best speculation is static. Lost confidence in plane in less than VFR weather. Panel upgrade to go back to breakers, and installing dual Garmin 3X Touches'. Big project.
