Brief Description: Cooler plenum cleanup and flange build
The cooler plenum cured nicely so it was time to remove it from the plug and clean it up. After trimming it down, I temporarily installed it on the cooler and firewall to see that it would clear the cowling and it did by a whopping 1/8"! Couldn't have got that again if I tried! After install I pondered how I would direct the air into the box and noticed I would have to go in at a 45 degree angle to clear the cowling. No bid deal, but after looking at the path the CAT hose had to take to the engine I began to worry that the 1.5" hose would start restricting the engine. A lot of tight turns and a decent 2.5 feet of the stuff had me wanting to bump it up in size if at all possible. I grabbed my 2" hose and headed for the firewall. I found that if I Carefully route it, and zip tied it tightly to various points along the way, it WILL in fact clear all the accessories! BOOM! That will ease my worries a lot! It was motivated by the fact that getting my 2-3/8" throttle body reduced to 1.5" is nearly impossble considering the silicone couplers are nowhere in that size range. That will no longer be an issue :) I headed home and made a 2" round green foam plug for the flange and laid up 2 plies Carbon BID. After cure I'll most likely add 1 more ply to the inside of the flange for strength and a smoother transition. This is getting exciting....
