The rudder was sanded to 3000 grit last night and cleaned up. I pulled the rudder cable out of the conduit about 3 feet and sprayed it with Corrosion X which will lubricate the cable and also provide excellent corrosion resistance. I then drilled a small hole on the underside of the winglet where the open cavity can drain any water that may collect when parked in a rain storm. The plans state to put a 1/4" hole on the inside of the winglet, however I believe that is much to large and doesn't provide drainage at the absolute lowest point where water will collect. My hole does just that and I opened it to 1/8" which is plenty large enough. The hole is also located just in front of the rudder cable assembly so that water will drain before it reaches those parts, therefore preventing a puddle of rust waiting to happen. The rudder return spring was then attached to the rudder (also sprayed with corrosion X) and the rudder was installed. Finally I pulled on the rudder cable and verified free, clear, and smooth motion. DONE!
