Brief Description:  Landing light housing prep and finish

Shortly after trimming off the excess BID I decided that to peel ply something in hopes to get a finish ready product is a joke. Even the peel ply has imperfections and wrinkles. I took this opportunity to test a new paint idea I have. Yes my paint is always changing it seems :) I decided a while ago on rustoleum and I'm stickin with it, however the more beat up this nose cavity gets the more I'm dreading the prep work it will take just to hit these voids with a spray can for 3 minutes. I went to Lowes and found that they carry the same SATIN black I've been using, but in a brush on version. TOO cool! Tests would need to show an exact match though. I painted the underside of the housing with one half spray can and the other with brush. The spray can paint dries VERY fast but takes 3 coats for good coverage. The brush on will take 24 hours for cure but 1 coat is THICK. The paint dried enough by the end of the night to confirm that it is a DEAD ON MATCH. This will be a HUGE help when it comes time for touch up work in small areas. I may even need to thin it with Acetone so the build isn't too thick :) I then removed all of the paint, sanded, filled and sprayed the entire underside with hammered black as a primer, then Satin Black for color. After 24 hours I'll be bonding the enclosure into the nose with flox but no glass. There will never be a load put on this enclosure so strength will not be needed, just some good rigidity. This will also allow me to go straight to sanding and painting after cure. I've also been seriously considering not using any clear coat over the paint. The Rustoleum is REALLY tough stuff and I have noticed that the minwax clear can easily be marked with a fingernail which doesn't help. Undecided for now....
