Brief Description:  Started Process to Change the AVCS System Parts

Started Process to Change the AVCS System Parts from the engine. Initially, I had planned to remove the engine from the aircraft to make the change. This is what Dennis Glaeser did to make the repair on his RV-7A. But after some consideration, I decided to make the repair with the engine on the aircraft. With the cooling system hoses, throttle cable and the alternator moved out of the way, there is prenty of space between the back of the engine and the firewall to work. Fiirst, we drained the coolant and oil from the engine. Next, the coolant fixtures on both side of the top of the engine were disconnected from their forwad attachments then folded back out of the way onto the top skin. The alternator was removed. Next, the most difficult task was the removal of the cam pulley. This required a 15mm socket on a breaker bar and a cheater bar consisting of a 1" pipe slid over the breaker bar for length. After considerable force, the bolt broke free and the pulley came off very easily. All of the border socket screws and center screws were loosened, The next step is the removal of the cover that will need to be pryed apart to break the seal formed by the Black RTV. This is where we stopped for the day.
