Brief Description: Engraved Identification Plate Shedding Black Areas
Engraved Identification Plate Shedding Black Areas. The plate has been in place a couple of months but is already shedding the black ink on the surface. I didn't pay any attention to the surface quality of the plate when installed the plate. I assumed that the black was more permanent like an anodized surface treatment. But the black looks like it is being blown off of the plate.
Contacted Aircraft Spruce who requested a photo of the problem. This photo was provided and I am awaiting the results of their investigation. The problem is that replacement of the plate will result in the shop head of the pulled rivets inside the aircraft in an area that is inaccessible. Additionally, the replacement plate will need to be sent off for engraving. Just a nuisance task.
