Brief Description:  Put the Nose Gear Together

Put the Nose Wheel Together. Applied tire talc to the interior of the wheel and to the tube then partially inflated the tube. The wheel halves were drawn together by the bolts and the tube was exercised inside the wheel several times to 60 psi after full deflation then inflated to 40 psi.

Packed the wheel bearing with Aeroshell #5 grease and inserted into the wheels with grease at contact point of the rubber dust seal and the aluminum of the wheel. The U-623 Matco axle adapters were inserted into the center of the bearings.

Looked for the MS21045-5 all metal lock nut that is shown on the drawing securing the AN5-20 bolt that attaches the nose gear leg to the engine mount. It was not in the appropriate hardware bag and it was not listed on the inventory list. I called Van's and Scott said that the nylok nut could be used in this area but he would send the MS21045-5 nut if I wanted one. Considering that the exhaust pipes are right below this point (plus the torturously hot engine compartment environment), I opted for the all metal stop nut. If need be, I'll use the nylok nut untill the replacement arrives.

Called Van's back again when I discovered that the 2 Grade 8 washers that I need for the front wheel axel bolt only have a 1/8" hole for a AN5 bolt. They will be sending them with the other nut.
