Applied Fuel Lube to threads and torqued fittings. This was after spending neaarly the whole day trying to re-do the Left Fuel Return line because it had too much tension for the final product before torquing the nuts. No matter what I did, I could not get the B-nut to engage the elbow on the fuel selector. There was enough tension on the line as it passed through the side wall grommet that it caused the nut to mis-align. After too many frustrating attempts, I took a break. When I came back, I had the idea to remove the grommet and see if the line would attach. It did attach easily without the grommet. I carefully aligned the line in the center of the hole, without the grommet in place. I then re-installed the grommet, inserted the line through the grommet and attempted to thread the B-nut on the elbow. Voila!!! It attached easily without effort.

I put fuel lube on the threads and torqued the B-nuts. Initially, I used the alternate method of finger tightening the nuts then tightening the 6D nuts an extra1.5 flats. I went back and used a torque wrench and tightened them to 100 inch lbs per the Standard Aircraft Handbook. A Technical Data Sheet on Van's site shows the Alternate method of tightening Aluminum nuts to fluid fitting. But after using the Alternate method, I noted that the 6D nuts in Van's table should be torqued to 150-190 inch lbs. This is contrast to the Standards hardbook that says to torque 6D nuts to 75-125 inch lbs. Similarly, Van's calls for 4D nut to be torqued to 100-140 inch lbs where the Standards Handbook says 40-65 inch lbs. After regretably trying to tighten the left vent line to Van's values, I stopped short of reaching it because it seemed to require so many turns on the nut. I was afraid that the flare of the sleeve would the damaged. Therefore, the Right vent line is torqued to 50 inch lbs. and the left vent line was left at whatever value that was obtained before I stopped.
