Brief Description: Installed the Firewall Skybolt Fasteners
Installed the Firewall Skybolt Fasteners. First drilled the cowling to 31/64" using a Unibit and finished with a 31/64" bit. Next, I riveted the fasteners to the brackets. I placed floating fasteners in the upper corners per suggestions. I'll be replacing one of the fasteners on the right side bottom of the cowling with a floating fastener because of a slight misalignment. All of the other holes and fasteners lined up well. Finally, I installed the hole collars and the Philps head twist fasteners in the cowling holes. These are normally held in place with a retention ring on the inside of the cowling once the cowling is painted. This is because the clips are somewhat difficult to remove once in place. Until the cowling is final painted, the collars are supposed to fit tightly in the 1/2" drilled colwling hole. This is not the case. I under drilled the holes and still the cillars are loose in the holes. I will need the retention rings prior to painting.
