Brief Description:  Cut the Holes for the Vertical Power Display Unit

Cut the Holes for the Vertical Power Display Unit and the Switch Unit in the Instrument Panel. I cut the Display Unit using the laminate and plastic cutter that I had used for the cutting of the avionics opening. It requires many strokes because it removes small curls of aluminum with each stroke as the cutter was pulled from one corner hole to the other. The lines are quite straight, guided by an aluminum straight edge clamped in position. After the hole is made, a light use of a fine file is all that is needed to finish the hole edges. That is if the hole is cut perfectly. But as it turns out, there is a bit of hole size adjustments need to make a good fit. These adjustments were made with a steel angle as a guide and a Vixen file was used to rapidly remove excess material. A fine file was used to finish the edges and maintain a curve in the corners.

With the Switch Unit, I cut the hole using a Dremel cutting wheel with good results. The cut was faster but the finish work with the files was a bit more then with the other technique.

With good fore thought and planning, the Display and Switch Panel mounted very nicely with good alignment ane spacing.
