Brief Description:  Back drilled mass balance arms to ailerons

This evening I marked up and drilled the chrome molly plates to ensure that I picked up the center of the second rib. I then laid out the other holes in relation to this. One saving grace is that because I have dimpled the skins and the rivets sit flush, I have marked and drilled the holes to fit between the existing rivets, so I have gone from pitch 40 to picth 20 for the section that is attaching the balance plate to the skins.

On the front face which was not dimpled I have drilled out the existing 3 rivets and laid out 5 rivets into the rib as this is the area that will have the most weight acting on it in a downwards direction, the other rivets where then marked and drilled, 3 rivets to each vertical side.

Next step, drill the hole for the bolt to attach the arm and then see how much weight is requried to balance the ailerons.
