Brief Description:  Permission to attend NATFLY

I asked for special permission to attend Australia's version of OSHKOSH for Recreational Aviation, which is held over the Easter Week End each year. The weather was not great but I did manage to get away with two other aircraft, another 601XL and an old model Jabiru. We had a great flight until we reached Narromine (the location of the event) which seemed to be having a continuos rain shower, so we elected to land at Dubbo airport which is 15 minutes away and wait it out. Well that idea did not work, so a quick call to some friends at the event confirmed that VMC still applied so we departed to land in a rain shower that lasted for about 1.5hours. Needless to say we got just a little wet. But it was still a fun day and we managed to catch up with the Zodiac builders group for lunchtime BBQ.

Thanks to Chris Sinfield for organising the BBQ and Liezel Maree from Sport Air Australia for hosting the gathering plus supplying us with Zenith Australia Tee shirts.

The return trip was, well lets just say interesting to say the least. 25knot head winds, rain showers to fly around, a landing at Mudgeee for fuel, another landing a Yarrawa to wait out a heavy rain shower, decreasing light, which meant we made it back to Cessnock 15 minutes before last light. Sunday at Narromine was even worse weather wise. It will be interesting to see the attendance numbers as it sure looked down on last year.
