Brief Description:  Part 2 - Oil Door flush latch problem

The thickness of the Oil door is .054" and the thickness of the Cowling is .085. Add the two together and you get .139, which is very close to the offset of the stock bolt offset (.132). The curvature of the cowling appears to be the issue here. As you can see from the pictures below, when the door is put in place and firm pressure is applied to the latch the mechanism stops way before the latch fully engages.

One option I am thinking is to add a shim to the door latch to move it down a bit and also shave the cowling fiberglass flange lip to reduce the offset.
