Brief Description:  Part 1 - Oil Door flush latch problem

Ordered two flush latches (Hartwell H-5000-2). The dimensions for the bolt offset, which is the distance between the top of the latch mechanism and the bottom of the latch plate is .132"

I used the standard Van fiberglass oil door and made a cut out for the latch mechanism. When the latch is clecoed to the oil door the offset is consumed by the thickness of the oil door plus the slightly rounded curvature of the door. See pictures below

There are other builders who have used this latch with a different model numnber (H-5100-2). The model appears to be out of production. The Hartwell catalog indicates that there are many bolt offset dimensions available for this type of mechanism, Howerver there are no part numbers or suppliers that cary. In addition the part numbers (xxxx-yy) where yy is some sort of bolt offset dimeniosn remains a mystery. When I look at the older latch the mechanism is much more beefy and more importantly, had a larger bolt offset.

Aircraft Spruce only sells one model

If you scroll down to page 8 (trigger lock and missle air latches). the brochure indicates that there are many bolt offsets available. (Hundreds of combination of offsets are available in a single model)

Adding a shim to the bottom of the latch will increase the offset and I have tried that, however it also recesses the entire latch mechanism below the thickness of the oil door.
