Brief Description: Front spar attachment & rear spar attachment
Adjusted the bandsaw and it now works great. The spar attachments are all made from .063" 6061-T6 aluminum. This is fairly heavy material and requires special techniques and tools. I cut out all the part blanks using a straight edge and Olfa knife. I finished front spar attachments by using dead blow hammer to form it over 3/4 inch playwood with a 1/4" radius. The rear spar attachment was hammered over a 3/4" plywood form block with 1/4" radii on the two flange sides. After marking the elevator control and flange cutouts, I followed the construction manual and used hand snips to cut out the excess. Unfortunately, the snips went through the intersecting line on the side flanges and they also put deep scratches in the web. Not wanting to give up on the part, I buffed it until the scratches were gone, but it was pretty clear that the part thickness had been compromised. On measuring the thinnest part of of one side flange, I discovered it was down to .047". Decided I would remake the part later.
