Brief Description:  NatFly 2007

Our Easter escape was to NatFly, which is Australia's biggest National flyin for Recreational aircraft. It's on every year over the Easter long weekend. This year Anne-Marie and I drove out together even though she did offer to drive and meet me there if I wanted to fly (I have a single seat biplane) but I figured that since Anne-Marie had already done this for me once before it would not have been fair to let her do it again. Besides its a six hour drive from our house to Narromine which is in Western NSW. One of the main aims was to meet up with the East coast distributor for Zenith Gary Sweetnam and organise a fly in the XL. I am getting close to finishing and as yet had only ever sat in an XL. Because of the number of people with the same idea, we only managed to each get in one circuit, but hey, better than not going at all. I have to admit, it was over all to quickly and while I did get to fly the circuit, all I can say is, it flys nice, its stable (there was lots of wind and thermals), climbs well fully loaded (800 fpm), rudder feels nicely balanced, ailerons feel a little heavy (Gary has the hingeless version and Geoff has the hinges which feel lighter) elevator feel is nice, judging roundout with that big wing under you is different, guess I'll have to pay for some transition training to get a real appreciation for the XL. I also got a call from Allan (Cummins Spinners) who managed to get 1 hour in Geoff Moores XL back at Temora as he was driving through on his way home to Bendigo, his comments, fabulous.
