The plans have urathane foam under the tubes. I am using flox instead. I do not want the tubes moving or rotating. I heaped in a lot of flox and coved with peel ply. The next day I added more to ensure I could get the shape I needed.
Once cured it was a lot of grinding down to then remove as much flox as I could as well as maintaining a nice smooth shape for the coming BID layup. I really spent time wanting to have the minimum weight here. I also added a few mild dimples to the tube as suggested in the plans. Even though my tubes are knurled, I think I lost some of that while sanding out the flox.
The last pic shows two plys of BID over the tubes and laping up onto the tabs and over the gear leg. I spent a long time doing this and working out how as it seemed the glass had to go in several directions.
I used my gloved fingers more than any other tool and checked in on it while the slow cure began. I hope it cleans up well. I'm confident it will be A1 structurally. I am just trying to do good work and have a good feel in the shape of the things I'm making..
