Manual Reference:  F-674 Aft Top Skin
Brief Description:  F-674 Aft Top Skin 1

Got out the other aft top skin (F-674) and laid out the ultimate cabin window trim line. I need to smooth the curve and then add another 1 1/2 inches forward for safety stock as I fit it all together. Then I can ultimately trim back to the plan line. After making the big scallop cut I strapped it on and positioned it correctly followed by crawling inside and match drilling the rear overlap on bulkhead F-607, I then traced the F-606 bulkhead outline on the inside of this skin, marked all the flutes and slots, took the skin off and layed out a rivet pattern for that bulkhead. I did that in honor of the dying requirement to trace and layout rivet patterns on the undrilled skins of the RV6. Besides, it was only one bulkhead. It worked out perfectly and for that bulkhead I match drilled from the outside in. On all the rest of the stringers and F-688 I match drilled from inside. I thought the overlap onto the lower side skins would be uniform but it wasn't. When I take this skin off for finishing I will trim the overlap to an even distance below the longeron rivet holes. With the extra 1 1/2 inches of the rear window scallop in place, I have enough skin to make the final trim lines to be even with the tip up canopy side skin. A call to Vans confirmed to just drill the F-674 sides to the longeron in a natural lay, not forcing the skin up at the bottom. Its all good. Just get it done.
