Brief Description: Wired Precision GPS input for Transponder 2020 man
I added wiring to connect the GTN650 GPS to the Sky view Transponder specialty input. This is needed for FAA 2020 compliance if you fly into controlled airspace and anywhere you need to have a transponder now. The Skyview by default uses the internal GPS but it is not a precision GPS source. . Since I have the wiring open and accessible now, I added a wire to Pin 7 of the GTN650 (GPS 2 Out) and configured for ADSB format output. The Sky view has a special input (Pin 3) for this input. You also need to add a 1.21K resistor inline as well.
I connected and configured both units. Not sure if this works yet as the GTN650 is not able to see the GPS Satellites in the garage. Funny, the Sky view GPS has no problem if you keep it on for 5 minutes and typically get 4 to 6 GPS locks in the Garage. I will roll the fuselage outside the garage and test before I rivet the forward top skin.
You also need to affix a permanent sticker to the transponder the same time you upgrade the firmware.
