Brief Description:  Drill/Fabricate forward end of 741A cover support.

I shaped the forward end of the F-741A tunnel cover support. I left the aft end long for now and I’ll shape it later.

Now the question. How the heck do you drill the 4 holes in the z bracket such that they line up with existing holes in the floor ribs? And, you also have to make sure the spacing between the Z brackets match the tunnel cover width.

I got the z brackets clamped in place. Forward/aft position was easy. Just slide it forward until you like the position based on the forward end. Then space the two brackets apart using the cover. Now there are 4 holes on the seat ribs under the Z bracket that you’ve got to match to the Z brackets. I took a drill bit and twisted it in the hole in the rib making a small mark on the Z bracket flange. I kind of had to do this blind. Then removed the Z bracket and carefully drill 1/8” hole on the marks. Then replace the Z brackets and enlarge the holes from 1/8" to #19. This worked good for me. The plans have you dill these holes from dimensions on the drawings. I just can’t see how this can work. My holes are perfectly located.

I have a confession to make. I was at VANS a while back and I bought a spare 18” piece of the Z bracket thinking I was bound to have to remake them given the complex shapes at the ends. This was the first time I’ve bought apart before messing it up. Good news is I got them made correctly the first time and didn’t have to remake them. The piece only cost $4.00 so I’m ok with having an extra piece.
