Brief Description: Drill elevator horns at center bearing.
Drilling was a 4 step process to get to the ¼ inch hole.
My new friend Kai offered on VAF to send free a elevator horn drill bushing to anyone ready to use it. The bushing is ¼” OD and #40 ID. The catch is that I use it and then send it to someone else. I sent it to my other new buddy Sam Staton.
Step 1 - Use the drill bushing from Kai to drill a #40. Step 2 - enlarge to #30. Step 3 - Drill using a special step drill where the tip is 0.197 and steps up to 0.246. Step 4 - Used undersize ¼” reamer from Avery. Why use an undersize reamer? My ¼” bolts actually measure 0.247”, not 2.5”.
The bearing ID is large. Maybe 0.26 or so. So, to get the 0.246 bit and reamer to drill perpendicular to the horn I actually used the bearing as a drill guide. I didn’t want to drill these holes at an angle.
