I did the same with the sides as I did with the bottom. I used my little mini T square and set the fire wall back from the side skin by 5/8” making sure I measured on a rivet line on the firewall away from the flange/web curve radius.
I noticed that the firewall flange differs in width a great deal. This is why you can’t just line the firewall flange up with the skin edges.
