Brief Description:  F-104 BH - Rivet F-704C/D's to main spar.

The first thing is to get the 704C/D's clecoed on the spar. Before you cleco, put a few polts in place to ligh it up. Then cleco it. Leave the bolts in for the rivet process. I think this is important. If you don't get perfect alaignment, your'll never get your bolts in.

Riveting on these 704C/D uprights to the main spar looks simple enough. Lots of rivets. For the first time I decided to rivet using my C-Frame from Avery Tools. The Avery C-Frme came with a 3" extension that holds a standard die. I'll put the #30 cupped die in it. This extension goes on the bottom of the C-Frame. The tool also came with a long flat rivet set that goes through the bushing on the top of the C-Frame. You put your rivet gut on top of that.

Using foam and a couple of boards to raise the spar and I was ready to go. Wow perfect rivets. Just alaign the rivet in the bottom cupped set, push the spar down onto the cupped set and pull the gun trigger. No need to press down on the gun. The gun weight is good enough. Perfect shop heads.
