Brief Description:  Firewall - Rivet firewall. Part 5.

Well now, we are down to the last 4 rivets in each 601J angle. At this point I have all good rivet sets and have not had to drill any out.

These guys are very close to the radius and the normal back rivet set sleeve is in the way and can't be used.

I opted to back rivet these with a back rivet set that came with the Avery C-Frame dimple tool. It doesn't have the sleeve so a little extra care in holding it in place will be required. Also I wrapped the end with duct tape and made sure it was wrapped over the corner of the set.

It went great until I turned the firewall over and noticed the 2 rivets closest to the bottom stiffener have proud manufactured heads. How the heck did this happen? I drilled out 2 rivets from each 601J. I pre squeezed 4 rivets so they filled the slightly expanded holes and tried again and again these guys are proud. What's up with that?

Before I tried the second time I made sure the back rivet plate was away from the radius of the firewall. This was the only way I could see that would hold the plate from the rivet head. For now I'll leave it alone and think about it. Maybe these should be forward bucked?
