Brief Description:  Gas Tank Z Bracket Prep Part 1.

I am using Dan Checkoway's procedure to get these preped and to get the gas tank lined up. I evaluated the Van's way VS Dan's way and Dan's way really seems better. Check it out at www.rvproject.com

Here I've got the 3 holes in the brackets. I got them by drilling the center hole on the drill press. Then screw the bracket on the main spar and back drill through the existing holes in the spar to get the outside 2 holes. Used a #12 bit. All these #12 holes are moved 1/16" from the center of the flange towards the web. I measured the center from the out side of the flange, not the inside. I did the opposite on the most inboard bracket.

Next I used my handy dandy clamp and bolted a nut plate on. Using a bolt through the nut plate gets the nut plate centered because the hole is currently the exact same size as the bolt. Notice the large nut on the bolt. It acts as a waster so I don't have to thread the bolt all the way through the nut plate. Once the bott is tight and the nut plate is level you can drill both holes. Then move to the next hole with the same bolt but a fresh nut plate.

Notice I put masking tape on the bracket to protect it.
