Brief Description:  Drill forward HS spar to fuselage.

The HS must be positioned properly before drilling the fuselage under the HS forward main spar.
So, lets define “positioned properly. The HS tips need to be equal distance to the fuselage forward section as seen in earlier posts and it needs to be level.

Lets define level. For me the HS is level when the HS main spar is level with the wing main spar. So, that’s what I did. I used the bubble of my digital sears level. The digital readout is useless. Its stupid and I never use it. The bubble however is great. I can see a fraction of a degree for sure.

So, I leveled the fuselage by placing the bubble level on the wing main through spar. Then, as can be seen in image 1, I leveled the HS main spar. Now, if the aft turtle deck is level with the wing main spar then the HS does not need to be leveled. Just plop in on. But, it seems I have a light twist in my fuselage. I needed a 0.007” shim under the left side of the HS main spar to level it. 0.007 is the thickness of 2 sheets of paper.
I still have to work out on what to use for the final 0.006” shim.

Once level I drilled the fuselage through the 4 holes in the HS main spar.
I first match drilled the outer holes from the top through the HS angle with a #30.
Then enlarged with a 0.187 drill bit, followed by my 1/16” reamer.

Then drilled the inner holes from the top with a #30 angle drill. Then from the bottom I drilled upwards with my 0.187 drill bit, followed by my 3/16” reamer again from the bottom.
