Brief Description:  Roll Bar - Rivet for/aft roll bar splice plates.

I riveted the roll bar bottom splice plate after riveting on the straps. Bad idea. I thought my longeron yoke would fit around the strap but it doesn’t. Why didn’t I rivet the splice plate before the straps like I should have? Well, I had heard stories that the roll bar either gets wider or narrower as a result of riveting the straps. I thought I would rivet the straps first then look to see if the width changed. Without the splice plate riveted I could adjust the width a bit if needed. Well, it didn’t change width and now I have to find an alternative way to rivet the splice place. Image 1 and 2 show how I back riveted using the C-Frame. Worked good.

Image 3 shows how I riveted the forward splice plate. Simply squeeze.

Well, here is my take on all the he “roll bar expanding or contracting” during rivet process comments. I think it takes on the width it was at when the straps were drilled regardless of the width you clamp it for riveting. Just sayin.
