Brief Description:  Fuselage disassembly - Part One

Today was the day to begin the disassembly process on my fuselage. The plan is to deburr and mark (if needed) each piece as it comes off the plane. Also I have a list of things I'm doing as I disassemble because of increased access. First on the list was trimming the bottom edge of the rear top skin. When I made the part, I used my metal shears because I was imagining the edge tucked under the side skins. Not exactly the plan, since you want rain water to sheet over the edge, not run down into a 6-foot long seam pointing toward the sky. So, I cleaned up the edge to make it presentable. Next I drilled to size the panel top skin. In the process of disassembly, I got to the arm rest sides and cover which I intended to make removable. I measured and drilled for floating anchor plates (8 per side). The last special installation work was the aileron fairleads. The middle, side and top balance fairleads are all measurement intensive, but I was pleased with the results. That plus all the deburring made for a full day.
