Brief Description:  Corvair College 13 and my new engine

After a considerable detour into BC territory (not British Columbia), my engine was the featured build at Corvair College 13 in Livermore, CA. William Wynne and Dan Weseman assembled the bottom end of the engine (bearings, crankshaft, camshaft, cylinders, rods, pistons and rings) in Florida prior to the college. That arrived by air freight on Friday. The heads were brought up to aviation standards by Mark Petniunas of Falcon Machine Shop, who joined William at this event. As it turns out, Mark and I finished the installation of the heads and valve train. William installed the oil pickup and oil pan. I guess it truly takes a village! The only minor disappointment was our inability to properly install the high-volume oil pump needed to lubricate Dan Weseman's 5th bearing setup. William took my oil case assembly back to his shop and will complete it for my installation. It was a great weekend, hosted by Rick Lindstrom at his new First Light Aviation Group (FLAG) builder assistance center. I would guess that nearly 60 guys showed up on Saturday and I was pleased and relieved to be able to bring home my shiny, new engine when things wrapped up on Sunday. We never got to the point where we could run up the engine, but that's OK as I'll be able to do that at home on my own fuselage and engine stand in just a few months. Obviously this is a major step forward.
