Brief Description:  Instrument panel and front side skins added

There are pictures in the photo assembly guide that you study for months and months, and suddenly you are at that major junction in your building process. Today marked one of those days. For the first time since starting on the fuselage, it is looking "boat like" because it finally has the basic shape of an airplane. All of the sudden, I can tell where I'll be sitting and where all the instruments will be positioned. Things are finally taking shape in a big way. I spent a ridiculous amount of time today checking every measurement for all the flanged bulkheads and the instrument panel, since all I received from Tom Henderson was part blanks. After confirming that they were cut to the correct size, I actually decided to remake the instrument panel blank, not because of anything Tom had done but because of a small accident that happened when my parts first arrived. Let's just say that my instrument panel blank tangled with a closing garage door...and the garage door won! The final step was to plot and cut my form blocks for the instrument panel, which I then completed. Setting it was not a big deal, but the visual impact of having an instrument panel was huge. But even that didn't hold a candle to the final step of the day, when I temporarily placed the side skins along the longerons. The next time I get to work, I'll be trimming the side skins and setting the welded main gear attachment. I can't wait .
