Brief Description: Uninstalled instrument panel to prime and paint.
The weather was partly cloudy and hot today with very little wind. A perfect day to prime the modular instrument panel in the backyard paint booth. The panel needs to be painted before the wiring gets hot and heavy! But first I had to uninstall the panel plates and the panel frame with its stiffeners. Only took about 30 minutes to remove the whole thing. Of course I didn't have any instruments wired yet, but later it will be much easier to work behind the panel. I had already scuffed the panels and cleaned them. It only took a few minutes to scuff and clean the frame components.
I put up my backyard paintbooth, two saw horses with a chicken wire platform to hold the pieces. I dragged my portable compressor from the storage shed and set up everything and then went into the garage to mix my Sherwin Williams P60 G2 primer. I will paint with a mixture of gray and black Sherwin Williams JetFlex water based paint. I want the panel to be a dark gray color. The priming took about an hour with the sun flashing the coats quickly. I put on three coats of primer. After supper I went into the garage and mixed the paints to the appropriate gray color. Tomorrow I finish up the painting, weather permitting. I'll then reinstall the panel and switch subpanel and then get going again with the wiring.
