Brief Description:  Hang engine to verify FW penetration locations.

Today my brother Clark helped me to temporarily install the engine. We had a heck of a time getting the engine mount attached to the engine. I had read about the problems guys have had on Van's AF forum and thought we could quickly install, but you have to pay your dues. The first problem we had was that my new Harbor Freight 1- ton hoist would bleed down and not hold its position, so we decided to install the mount on the engine first. We started by installing the Lord vibration isolators on the top two mount positions but we weren't even close to aligning the bottom two holes. We then tried the bottom two positions first but that didn't work either. Then we had the idea of installing the two holes positioned diagonally which worked the best after we snugged up on those bolts.

We finally got the other two diagonally positioned holes aligned by using a drift pin made from one of the shipping bolts. On the TMX IO-360 engine, the drift pin had to be really short to be able to exit the holes due to the geometry. The last mount attached (next to #3 cylinder) had the pin down to 3/4" in length. We couldn't torque the top mounts with my 1/2" torque wrench so we torqued the bottom positions first (39 ft-lbs) and counted the threads and then made the top mounts the same. Installing the cotter pins was also a pain. We then had no trouble attaching the mount to the firewall after a little pulling and shoving. Now, we can verify the FW penetration locations called out for Van's FWF kit for this engine.
