Brief Description:  Sanded edges of canopy and windshield.

Today I had to sand and smooth all the edges from the cuts we made yesterday. The edges were rough and sharp which was caused by the heat generated by the fiber blade that I used in the die grinder. At first I just grabbed my trusty old rubber sanding block with 100 grit sandpaper. It didn't take long to realize that it would take forever to do this by hand.

I remembered that I had a pneumatic orbital sander that I had used to repair a crunch on my pickup. I even had some stick-on 220 grit sandpaper for the 6" pad. Wow, did that speed up the production!! One problem, was that I had to put very light pressure on the sander and slow it down to prevent it from taking off too much plexiglass as well as heating. The other problem was holding the piece steady so that it would not chatter the edge I was sanding. I found that I had to hold the canopy with one hand while sanding with the orbital sander. But it all worked much better and quicker than using the rubber sanding block.

I finally finished off the edges using 400 grit sandpaper by just holding it in my hand to smooth to a rounded edge as much as possible. The edges are now smooth and should not have any stress concentrations that causes cracks.
