Brief Description:  More bending the canopy frame.

We tried some more adjusting of the canopy frame with no luck. Charlotte called Joe at Van's builder's assistance. He said that he had built an RV-6 and finally cut the aft bows and them bent them to the proper shape and had them rewelded. Just as I thought, you can't there from here. He said that he'll look at our pictures next week to see if he can help. I think he just wants us to feel like they're trying. With all our bending we've caused a few small crimps in the aft bows and may have to order a new frame at $320. Van's is surly aware that the jig they use to make these frames must be out of whack. Our aft bow seems to be welded at an angle, right at the center tube, which causes an almost impossible task to correct it to match our turtledeck skin mold line.

Cut and reweld seems the only possible solution. Which is cheaper, a new frame or the welder? A new frame may be just as bad as this one, so cut, bend, and reweld is the way to go. It would behoove Van's Aircraft to help out their customers by correcting the canopy frame situation. A small adjustment here and there is expected, but to take it apart and put it back together when it's already been paid for is not good.
