Brief Description:  Tube bending started.

Today is Saturday and the tube bender finally came in the mail. Nice bender but trying to understand the instructions, obviously written by an experienced bender who had forgotten what it was like to be a beginner, drove me crazy. The instructions showed a 45 and 90 degree bend but not a 180 degree bend. It must be intuitively obvious to the casual bender but not me.

Therefore, I jumped right in and started bending the three 3/8"x18" pieces of tubing sent with the kit. Later, after three feet of scrap and a lot of cursing, I managed to bend one, almost good part! We figured out that one must leave enough straight at the end to be able to put on the sleeve and nut and flare the tube with our Parker flaring tool. Leave at least 1.25" +. And to bend a 180 bend it took at least 6" of tubing. Nothing in the instructions even mentioned an 180 bend; and that is why I ordered the ($62 including shipping) bender! Why am I griping when I know that "experience" is the only real teacher. Besides, Murphy wants me to order some more tubing, you see.

We decided to let it lay for the night and try again on Sunday.
