Brief Description:  Installed flap actutating system and AP servo.

Since the cockpit area was now painted, we decided to install the flap actuating system. This amounted to bolting in the actuating tube weldment and the flap motor in its channel support. It did not take too long to do this part of the installation, but we will have to later cut the holes in the side of the fuselage where the flap pushrod will connect to the flaps. I guess we'll do that before we can attach the wings. Haven't got there yet. The flap motor worm gear rod has to attach to the middle arm of the tube weldment with a bolt, washers, and nylon lock nut; but it also has to be safety wired through the small hole that I drilled in the worm gear shaft. I guess that's to keep the worm gear from unscrewing the shaft if the jam nut works loose on the rod end.

Decided to unpack the Dynon autopilot servos and control panel that finally arrived this week. I went out and uncovered the wings stored on the deck to see how the aileron servo would fit in the right wing. I removed the bell crank and drilled the hole in its lower arm that makes the connection with pushrod from the servo actuator arm. Then I put in the bell crank neutral position jig only to find that the bolt that holds the aileron pushrod would not go into the bell crank arms because one arm was not welded onto the pivot tube correctly. It was a couple of degrees off and the bolt fit through at an angle and would not let the bolt head or nut and washer sit flat to the arm surfaces. I called Van's and they are letting me return the bell crank and are sending me a new one. Good customer service!
