Brief Description:  Painted cockpit and baggage parts & panels.

The paint was finally delivered on Monday about 1:00 PM. I went about setting up to paint by filling a 5 gal. bucket about half full of water to wash my sprayer and tools. This Jet Flex paint is water reducible which makes it much safer with very littlte VOC fumes. The garage was already set up for painting and the fuselage was draped in plastic to keep the overspray off. After lightly scuffing the parts with a fine Scotch Brite pad and wiping them down with Aqua Mate wash, I laid out the parts on the chicken wire bench and started painting. I donned my half face respirator then added a face shield to prevent blow-back into my eyes and put on latex gloves. I also wore old jeans, a long sleeve shirt, and an old cap to keep off the overspray. It took a bit of time to get the HVLP sprayer set right. The directions called for two wet coats of paint with 10-15 minutes between coats to allow the first coat to flash. The temperature was about 90 degrees outside with low humidity and a slight breeze, perfect. I opened the garage door about 4" which provided just the right amount of draft with the window fan running.

Painting was the easy part. Setup and cleanup took the most time. It took about 4.0 hours to get the parts painted. The color is Sherwin-Williams Jet Flex dark gray with a non-glare satin finish.
