Brief Description:  Drilled and tapped Dynon pitot.

Trying to set up and clamp a streamlined pitot into a drill vise was an infuriating task. I used small plywood shims to try to hold the pitot at the correct angle in the vise so as not to scratch or damage the pitot. Every time I tightened the vise the pitot would slide up its curved surface. I even tried to use some rubber bushings from old shocks to hold it at the correct angle to no avail. I finally squeezed the pitot into the vise aligned squarely with long axis of the streamline. I then shimmed the drill vise using wood shims to get the correct angle (perpendicular to the curved surface where the hole was to be drilled) and then used sliding clamps to hold the whole mess rigid while I drilled with the #36 drill. Charlotte helped with her two more hands to be sure nothing moved while I was drilling. Each hole was drilled without puncturing the aluminum tubes in the pitot. I think Dynon should do that job! I then tapped the holes with a 6-32 fine thread tap. I'll use four #6-32 stainless steel screws to hold the pitot in the mast mount.

Drilled four #36 holes into the pitot to match holes in the Gretz pitot mast mount.
