Brief Description: Flap hinge loops cutout for pins insertion.
While waiting for my outside caliper order, I installed the flaps using the piano hinge loop-cut method. Two loops cut from the middle of the wing hinge half and one loop cut from the middle of the flap hinge half. I saw a great way to secure the pins on the VAF forum. Credit goes to Mike Cencula for a elegant solution to this problem. He cut two loops from the hinge and drilled a hole through the flat parts with the loops holding the pins while a screw connected to a nutplate pop-riveted to the flap brace.
I had to think through attaching the nutplate to be sure I could get the necessary tools into the space between the wing skins and the flap brace. I then drilled the screw hole and used the nutplate tool to drill the rivet holes. The nutplate was pop-riveted using the pneumatic rivet gun. I bent the pins by hand and rubber mallet using the vice and blocks of wood. I cut off the hinge loops by hand with a hacksaw blade. Thanks Mike for your great solution!
