Brief Description:  Trimmed off excess glass on empennage fairing.

After letting the fiberglass cure overnight, I trimmed off the excess glass cloth that we had added yesterday. The four layers of glass cloth added were 1" wide and the length of the fairing adjacent to the horizontal stab. They were added to give enough thickness to countersink for the #6 stainless steel screws. We could have used Tinnerman washers under the screws instead of adding thickness, but we didn't think we would like the look of the washers after painting.

I sanded the edges and then countersunk the screw holes by hand using the deburring tool. I reattached the fairing to the empennage and noted a leading edge gap between the V-stab and fairing. I mixed up some epoxy and glass beads after taping the areas that would get the mixture. I removed the fairing and added the mixture to the leading edge and a couple of other areas that needed a little more buildup for sanding or strength. It was 89 degrees today so the mixture started hardening quickly. This was a good day for fiberglass work because tomorrow's high temperature is supposed to be only 64 degrees.
