Brief Description:  Fabricated rudder pedal to cable links & installed

Today I fabricated the rudder cable links that connect to the rudder pedals. I had to lay on my stomach under the panel to measure the pedals at an equal distance from left and right vertical stiffer channels. The cable fitting hole distance to the rudder tang hole was 27/32".

Using the 1/2" wide 4130 steel strap that came from Vans kit. I cut, drilled, deburred, scuffed, primed, and painted the links. Again laying on my stomach, I attached the links using clevis bolts, washers, and castle nuts. The difficult part was installing the cotter pins into the bolt and nut between the fuselage skin and pedal tang. I had to use a flashlight from underneath to see when the bolt hole lined up with the castle nut. After inserting the pin, I used a small pair of channel lock pliers to bend the cotter pins while gasping for a breath. Did I mention that I hate cotter pins!
