Today I drilled holes into the upper empennage fiberglass fairing for the attach #6 screws. I used a hole duplicator strap to drill the holes to match the horizontal stabilizer nutplate holes. I then inserted screws into every other hole on the horz. stab to hold the fairing in place to drill the holes for the vert. stab.
I could not use the duplicator strap on these holes because the fairing was too tight against the vert. stab. I removed the fairing and drew lines up from the holes and made a mark at 2". I then put the fairing back on and reinstalled the screws to the horz. stab to hold the fairing. I measured down the two inches onto the fairing and marked the holes (I could barely see the holes through the fiberglass) with a Sharpie. After removing the fairing again, I drilled the vert stab holes. Tedious process!
