Brief Description: Match drilled VS forward spar to attach plate.
Today we clamped the VS to the forward attach plate and the aft bulkhead to match drill for riveting and bolting. We had fitted the VS many times to get the correct measurements before drilling. I match drilled the forward attach plate with the spar, shim, and a doubler clamped with C-clamps. Charlotte stood to the side and told me when the 90 degree pneumatic drill was perpendicular to the plate. I drilled as carefully as I could to prevent wallowed out holes which is easy to do with the angle drill. I only drilled the two bottom rows of holes because the top row was too difficult to reach. I removed the VS to match drill the top row. I still ended up slightly wallowing out a couple of holes, but not enough to go to the next size rivet. I added a shim between the spar and plate and a doubler aft of the spar due to close edge distance of the lower row of holes.
I also match drilled the VS aft spar to the aft bulkhead. Tomorrow I'll rivet the VS spar to the attach plate, shim, and doubler.
