Brief Description: Installed elevator pushrods to check deflection an
While I had the HS bolted on, I needed to check the elevator deflection angles. I installed the tunnel pushrod and the tailcone pushrod that connects to the elevator horns. I had to tidy up the wiring in the tunnel before I installed the pushrod. It took about a half day of back breaking, head down work in the cockpit to secure the wiring. I then connected the tunnel rod to the stick's yoke and the bellcrank. The tailcone rod was then connected to the bellcrank and the elevator horns. The elevator horn bolt spacers had been previously fabbed so it was an easy task.
Following the plans procedure with elevators clamped in the streamline position (neutral),the bellcrank straight up and down and screwing in the rod ends half way, I could not get the minimum elevator deflections. I had adjusted the sticks straight up and down which was not correct. After reading the VAF forum it seems that the sticks are acutally forward from straight up by 5-10 degrees while in the neutral postition. That was enough for one day.
